18 HIPAA Safe Harbor Identifier Categories

Names, dates, phone numbers, addresses, SSNs, medical record numbers, device IDs, IP addresses, and all remaining HIPAA-defined categories, flagged and replaced using local rule-based processing.

📊

Quasi-Identifier Review

Even after direct identifiers are replaced, quasi-identifiers (age, condition, geography) can still allow re-identification. DeIDGuard flags remaining quasi-identifiers that may contribute to re-identification risk, for your review.

4 Compliance Review Modes

Extended Identifiers

Beyond HIPAA's 18: social media handles, employer organization references, and genomic gene identifiers (BRCA1/2, APOE, TP53, and more) are also detected and redacted.

"Two out of three clinicians are already using AI in their practice. Research shows most don't realize that pasting identifiable patient text into a standard AI interface is a potential HIPAA violation, even if they opted out of data training. Once that text leaves the browser, it left the building. I built DeIDGuard so that step takes three seconds and happens before anything goes anywhere."

Dr. Shallanda Hunter, PharmD, MBA, RPh, CFNMP

Founder, Hunter's Holistic Health LLC · Creator of DeIDGuard

The gap between useful and safe is invisible. Until it isn't.

USC research found that clinicians are unknowingly creating HIPAA exposure every time patient text hits a consumer AI server. Not because they're careless. Because the workflow pressure is real and the risk is invisible. Dr. Hunter is a licensed pharmacist and functional medicine practitioner. She built DeIDGuard because the fix had to be frictionless. Not a compliance platform, not a cloud subscription, not another thing to procure. One step, in your browser, before you paste.

Questions answered.

Does DeIDGuard make my workflow HIPAA compliant?

No. DeIDGuard is a de-identification assistance tool. It automates the mechanical removal of identifiers but does not constitute HIPAA compliance, legal advice, or certification. Your organization's compliance posture depends on many factors beyond a single tool. Always consult your privacy officer and legal counsel.

Does any data get sent anywhere?

No. DeIDGuard has no server, no API, and no cloud component. All processing happens in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing leaves your device. You can verify this by inspecting the extension's source code. It makes zero network requests with your text.

Does it work with any AI tool?

Yes. DeIDGuard copies the clean text to your clipboard. You then paste it into Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or any other AI tool manually. The quick-open buttons open Claude and ChatGPT in a new tab for convenience, but the actual pasting is always manual. By design.

What is the Re-Identification Risk Score?

Removing direct identifiers (names, SSNs, etc.) is necessary but not always sufficient. Quasi-identifiers like age, gender, specific diagnosis, sub-state geography, and occupation can still allow re-identification through combination. DeIDGuard scores the residual risk after de-identification and lists which quasi-identifier factors remain for your review.

Is it free?

Yes. The core extension is free and complete. Future Pro features for teams and enterprise use are planned. The free version will always exist.

What browsers does it support?

DeIDGuard is a Chrome extension built on Manifest V3. It works in Google Chrome and any Chromium-based browser (Edge, Brave, Arc) that supports Chrome extensions.
